Senior Engineering Manager

Role 

Crisis Text Line's software engineers develop the next-generation data platform that changes how millions of humans connect with volunteer crisis counselors, our clinical staff, and the interaction with one another. Our platform needs to handle information at a massive scale and extend well beyond SMS as a channel. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information processing, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design, and mobile. 

As an Engineering Manager, you will not only have the technical expertise to take on and provide technical leadership to major projects but also manage a team of engineers. You not only optimize your own code but make sure engineers are able to optimize theirs. As an Engineering Manager, you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team. Responsibilities

• You not only optimize your own code but make sure engineers are able to optimize theirs
• As an Engineering Manager, you manage your project goals, contribute to product strategy and help develop your team
• Manage a team of software engineers, including task planning and code reviews
• Drive technical projects and provide leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment
• Be responsible for the overall planning, execution, and success of complex technical projects
• Contribute technically to projects
• Work closely with the product management team to ensure we're building the best products

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related degree, or equivalent practical experience.
• Three years of hands-on technical leadership and people management experience.
• Hands-on programming experience in one of the following: Java, Go, C#, C++, or Python.

Preferred qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related degree.
• Ten years of relevant industry experience, with five years of technical leadership and people management experience (managing teams of 8 or more developers).
• Large-scale systems design experience.
